Question #225 for conversation: What would you say to someone who is interested in Amateur Radio?
(If interested in submitting a weekly question, email n5zkf@arrl.net)
Phil Gates (N5ZKF)
- Professional radio engineering
- Didn’t see value in Amateur Radio at first
- Got a GMRS license first
- $35 for 10 years for everyone in family
- Charlie Culver has GMRS repeater that he will let local GMRS licensees use
Bill Rose (K5WTR)
- What is frequency of Repeater?
- 462.700 MHz
- Charlie will set CTCSS tone for general use
David Bailey (K5DKB)
- Thanks for coordinating!
- Working on a project in Brenham
- CTCSS 100.0 Hz
- Somerville repeater is back
- 444.825
- Linked to 147.260 repeater in Brenham
- Located in Birch Creek
Rich Rychetsky (W5SON)
- What I would say to someone interested in amateur radio:
- A way to talk with others around the world with no Internet or cell phone and maybe no power
- Good hobby to be able to lay down and pick back up whenever you want
- What made Matt Robinson (W5XMR) decide to get his license?
- The fact that he could get on the air with no test (with supervision of another ham)
- That gave him the interest he needed
Jeff McDowell (KI5CES)
- Handy Talkie
- Talked to John Walker (W1JCW) and mentioned the problem; suggested a reset
Brian Gaskamp (KA5BKG)
Information Exchange
Matt Robinson (W5XMR)
- What was the frequency and CTCSS tone for Somerville Repeater?
- Were the other Washington County repeaters offline yesterday?
- (Unknown)
