Announcements / Comments
Question #263 for conversation: How does the weather impact your amateur radio activities?
(If interested in submitting a weekly question, email n5zkf@arrl.net)
Bill Rose (K5WTR)
- Public service announcement:
- I’ve noticed that people are saying “this is (callsign)” (with no break)
- Supposed to pausing between “this is” and callsign to listen for doubling.
Michael Bobinski (N5NYL)
- Greater Houston Hamfest in Rosenberg this weekend
- Planning to drive down Friday afternoon and be back in time for the meeting.
- If you want a ride, call out after the meeting
- Good on QRZ
Phil Gates (N5ZKF)
- Disconnect feedlines for convective weather (lightning safety)
- I’ll take advantage of nice weather to do antenna maintenance outside
- Tune into local VHF/UHF frequencies if there’s a chance of severe weather
Matthew Barry (KG5LYE)
- Not specific to ham radio, but became aware of it after:
- NOAA Weather Radio (NWR) stations
- N5ZKF:
- Local weather station is WXK30 162.550 MHz
- Current weather conditions, forecast, temperatures, and weather alerts
- You can get a dedicated weather alert radio
Buy / Sell
Matthew Cadman (KJ5IIF)
- Heads-up: Looking to have club clear out a lot of old equipment
- Remote QRP station in Conroe that needs remote auto-tuner to work properly
- Hermes Lite 2 with filter board
- Does anyone know of a reasonably priced remotely controllable auto-tuner?
- Haven’t found anything after much research
- K5WTR: is this to change frequency or match antenna impedance? (latter)
- N5ZKF: I have an MFJ auto-tuner if you want to borrow it
