BRYAN AMATEUR RADIO CLUB
The Bryan Amateur Radio Club will hold its annual ARRL Field Day exercises at Earl Graham Post 159 American Legion located at 101 Waco St. Bryan on Saturday, June 24 and Sunday, June 25.
The purpose of Field Day is to practice emergency preparedness when the potential for high temperatures, hurricanes, storms and other hazards may present operational challenges. The Bryan Amateur Radio Club will be setting up radios, antennas, and other equipment. Thousands of radio operators across the US and Canada in clubs, groups, or remote locations will be practicing for emergencies and competing within the American Radio Relay League, which represents over 170,000 FCC-licensed Amateurs.
The public is invited to stop by to observe and will be offered an opportunity to speak on the radio to other Hams across the country. Presentations will be offered throughout the weekend, with topics including digital modes, VarAC, an antenna build session, a basic workbench skills session, and more. Ham License Exams will be held at 2pm on Saturday. Amateur radio operators seeking their license should begin studying now!
Founded in 1954, the Bryan Amateur Radio Club continues into the 21st century with a local focus on volunteering and radio fun. The club meets the 3rd Saturday monthly at the American Legion.
Earl Graham Post 159 is proud to host the Radio Club for regular monthly meetings and for this 2-day exercise which fulfills one of the American Legion’s core missions to support National Security.
Radio Club Field Day committee member Lorna Flansburg is a veteran and a member of the Post as is Don Hutchcraft, Chaplain at Post 159. They are passionate about continuing to serve the community and to prepare for possible disasters by maintaining communication networks. Civilians are also welcome to join the Radio Club.
